Skin aging process becomes apparent right around 25 years of age.  The very first signs are the fine lines that appear and disappear with muscle contraction and relaxation.  We know these as expression lines.  As time goes on, they become deeper and we start seeing deeper wrinkles, loss of volume, and loss of elasticity which lead to saggy skin.

For this reason, it is highly recommended that we start skin care and rejuvenation at an early age.  This will help prevent rather than treat.

What are the signs?

There are 3 main signs.  These are: Wrinkles, Loss of Volume, and Loss of Elasticity and deep wrinkles.

  • Wrinkles: The very first sign of aging are the fine lines and wrinkles. This start becoming apparent at around age 25 and they become more noticeable by age 30.  At first, they are small and shallow wrinkles which are commonly known as laughter lines or Crow’s feet.  These fine lines are followed by wrinkles on the forehead.  At first, they are more noticeable when skin moves with our facial expressions.  These are called dynamic wrinkles.  As time evolves and become more prominent return into permanent wrinkles.
  • Loss of volume: Normally you have fat under the facial skin. In some areas the fat pads are more prominent, such as under the eyes and cheeks. The distribution of the facial fat gives us the characteristic facial contours.  As the age we lose some of the subcutaneous fat.  This results in volume loss which shows itself as thinning of the lips, flattening of the cheeks, sagging skin, and the appearance of a turkey neck.  Overall this could give a negative look such as being sad or tired.
  • Loss of elasticity and deep wrinkles: The structures of the skin weakens with age. It also loses its elasticity and firmness.  This is mostly due to disintegration of Collagen and Elastin. This degeneration results in a loose, saggy skin with deeper wrinkles.  One example of such phenomena is the deep nasolabial fold which forms due to a combination of sagging skin and loss of volume.  Skin also becomes drier and loses the radiance associated with a youthful skin.  All of these changes become visible at about age 50.

What are the solutions?

The best medicine is always prevention.  Proper skin care and sun block are the fundamentals of a healthy and gracefully aging skin.

  • Face should be cleansed gently every evening to wash the pollution, dirt, and make up off of its skin. Failure to do so will prevent proper oxygenation of the outermost layer of the skin while you are sleeping.  It will also prolong the skin exposure to the oxidative damage of the pollution and dirt.
  • Gentle scrubbing should be done 2-3 times a week. This will remove the outermost Keratin layer of the skin that is scaling and restore a youthful glow.  Try an Olive oil-based scrub to add moisture.
  • Proper moisturizer should be applied regularly. This should be done at least twice a day, in the morning and at night.
  • Sun protection. This is probably the most important step in prevention.  SPF protects against the damaging rays that cause premature skin aging.  Remember sun lotions do not last forever.  You have to reapply around midday.  Sunscreen should be used every day, even in cloudy days.  Another point to remember is that indoor lighting in offices and commercial buildings are often white light, either LED or Fluorescent.   These lights usually have a high UV content.  Therefore, use sunscreen indoor as well.

Allergy Testing

Allergies affect more than 50 million people in the United States.

What are the Signs?

Allergies occur when your immune system overreacts to something in your environment. This overreaction can lead to:

  • a runny nose
  • sneezing
  • blocked sinuses
  • itchy, watery eyes

What are the solutions?

Allergy testing, also known as skin or prick testing, is a method for determining to what substances a person is allergic.

Skin allergy testing is the most common, reliable and relatively painless form of allergy testing. A small amount of certain allergens is put into your skin by making a small indentation or “prick” on the surface of your skin. A skin allergy test determines specific allergens based on skin reactions. You don’t have to wait long to find out what is triggering your allergies. Reactions occur within about 15 minutes.

If you have allergies, just a little swelling will occur where the allergen(s) which you are allergic to was introduced. For instance, if you are allergic to ragweed pollen but not to cats, only the ragweed allergen will cause a little swelling or itching. The spot where the cat allergen was applied will remain normal.

How we can help

Our clinical centers are fully equipped to provide this testing in the comfort of our boutique clinical setting. The total procedure takes about an hour and is conducted by clinical team members specially trained in allergy testing. Our team of clinical professionals provide a safe and comfortable environment for the testing.

Information obtained through our comprehensive allergy testing helps our expert providers diagnose the cause of your allergies. With this information we can work with you to develop a comprehensive plan to avoid elements that can trigger an allergic reaction, working towards a life free from allergy symptoms.

Hair Loss

We may not realize what we have until we lose it.  This holds true for many of our health and wellbeing issues.  However, hair is on the top of this list.  Hair has always been and will continue to be a symbol of youth and vitality.  We even use it as a media for our self-expression.  What kind of hair cut we get, how we comb our hair, and what color we give it are just a few examples of how we express ourselves through our hair.  It can even communicate personal feelings. Think about it! When we are sick our hair stands out one way, when we wake up or when we are tired our hair stands out another way.  When we are happy, sad, or feeling festive, our hair is done in different ways.

Unlike costly surgical procedures our clinical treatment is proven effective at assisting the natural hair growth process by activating cells in the bulge of the Follicle and subsequently stimulate the cells to grow and produce new hair.  It is a very effective treatment to maintain and promote new hair growth and even new follicle formation.  And is effective in both men and women alike.

What are the signs?

  • Gradual thinning on top of head. This is the most common type of hair loss, affecting both men and women as they age. In men, hair often begins to recede from the forehead. Women typically retain the hairline on the forehead but have a broadening of the part in their hair.
  • Circular or patchy bald spots. Some people experience smooth, coin-sized bald spots. This type of hair loss usually affects just the scalp, but it sometimes also occurs in beards or eyebrows. In some cases, your skin may become itchy or painful before the hair falls out.
  • Sudden loosening of hair.A physical or emotional shock can cause hair to loosen. Handfuls of hair may come out when combing or washing your hair or even after gentle tugging. This type of hair loss usually causes overall hair thinning and not bald patches.
  • Full-body hair loss. Some conditions and medical treatments, such as chemotherapy for cancer, can result in the loss of hair all over your body. The hair usually grows back.
  • Patches of scaling that spread over the scalp. This is a sign of ringworm. It may be accompanied by broken hair, redness, swelling and, at times, oozing.

What are the solutions?

Though as with all medical procedures, results vary depending on age, condition severity, general health, genetics and environmental conditions – our state of the art treatment can reverse and sometimes eliminate the effect of:

  • Male Pattern Hair Loss
  • Female Pattern Hair Loss
  • Fine/reduced hairs (Hypotrochosis) in the eyebrows or beard
  • Alopecia Areata, Alopecia Totalis
  • Metabolic causes of hair loss – loss due to iron deficiency or induced by medication.

How we can help.

Laser Therapy

Whether it is acute or chronic, Pain impacts an estimated 75 million Americans. Almost two-thirds of these individuals have been living in pain for years! Pain can rob people of their ability to participate in various activities and prevent people from living a full and fulfilling life.

Laser therapy is a safe, topically applied treatment that can have an immediate and lasting impact on a patient’s life without the use of drugs or surgery. Best of all, the treatments have no side effects or risks that may be associated with other forms of treatment. Sessions are quick and conducted in the comfort of our office.

Research has shown that Laser Therapy:

  • Helps injuries heal faster
  • Has a strengthening effect on tissue repair
  • Improves blood flow & lymphatic drainage.
  • Is an effective means of relief for many pain syndromes
  • Can improve immune response

What is Laser Therapy?

Deep Penetrating Laser Therapy photobiomodulation which causes a stimulation of cells and tissue repair, based on scientific research, which has demonstrated positive physiological effects of infrared wavelengths on cellular organelles and electron chain molecules. When the laser light penetrates the skin and underlying tissue, they are absorbed by the cells and converted into energy. The cell membrane permeability is altered which triggers cellular events including the stimulation of ATP, increased DNA/RNA synthesis, increased levels of beta endorphins and serotonin as well as enhanced collagen synthesis.

What does Laser Therapy Treat?

PRP treatment helps stimulate soft tissue cell and blood vessel regeneration. Proteins called growth factors are instrumental in healing injuries and allowing damaged tissue to regenerate. Though as with all medical procedures, results vary depending on age, condition severity, general health, genetics and environmental conditions – this treatment can:

  • Inflammatory Conditions
  • Epicondylitis
  • Bursitis
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Edema
  • Effusion
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Myofasciitis
  • Muscle Spasms
  • Radicular Pain
  • Restricted ROM / Stiffness
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis

How treatment is performed:

Based on a comprehensive evaluation from our clinical team, target areas are identified for treatment. Treatments are performed by positioning the laser handpiece above the area of pain and introducing a laser treatment beam. Depending on the condition, treatment times last on average between 5-10 minutes, but based on the size of area, depth of penetration needed and condition, treatment may take as much as 15 minutes.

Is it safe?

It is very safe. There is no pain associated with a treatment. Most patients notice a warm, often soothing feeling. Many patients also experience reduced muscle tension and tightness, reduced inflammation and improved range of motion.

How many treatments Do you need?

Patients report feeling and seeing changes almost immediately. For most conditions 6-12 treatments will produce lasting results. Those with chronic or lifelong conditions may require additional follow up treatments to maintain the positive effects.
